Boutique-Hotel Schlüssel
Beckenried's upper village hides a boutique hotel built in 1727
Set into the upper village of Beckenried, the building dates to 1727 and looks out over Lake Lucerne and the mountains of central Switzerland. It has operated as a guesthouse since 1820, and the current owners have expanded and restored it in stages, adding rooms in 2000 and 2009 and repairing its facades, windows and roofs in 2013. The result keeps its old timber and stone shell but runs as a modern boutique hotel, with 12 rooms across the main house and an adjoining building.
Rooms range from compact Comfort doubles at 20 m² to Deluxe rooms of 30 to 40 m² and two rooftop suites of 50 to 60 m², set under sloped beams with space for a family. Most rooms keep a freestanding bathtub in the Belle Époque style. You can watch the light shift over the lake from the window seat in several of them.
The kitchen runs without a fixed menu. The chef builds each evening's dishes around what local growers, fishers and producers have ready that day, served in a choice of dining rooms sized for couples or full parties. A small shop on site, once the village's general store, now sells regional soap, jam and the hotel's own muesli. Check-in details are handled directly with the two resident hosts.
