Bushman Rock Safaris

Forty minutes from Harare, Bushman Rock Safaris occupies a 450-hectare private reserve that began as a vineyard and has since grown into one of Zimbabwe's better-known hospitality stops. The land carries both identities still: rows of vines run toward a lake, and zebra and giraffe graze at a feeding point visible from several lodges. Msasa trees turn bronze and maroon through the season. Accommodation is spread across the reserve rather than stacked in one block. The A-frame lodge opens onto a thatch veranda and irrigated lawn, while river tents sit under canvas and thatch beside the Nyamasanga River with brick bathrooms and outdoor showers. The Tree Tops Suite, built largely from reclaimed local materials, is set into the tree canopy above a dam, with a mezzanine lounge and a king bed facing open sky. Three family suites combine king and twin rooms, each looking onto lakes, gardens or the wildlife feeding point. A guided game drive covers the reserve's plains and forest edge, and a stone-and-thatch chapel above the vineyard and lake is used for weddings, capped at twelve a year. Meals draw on produce grown on the estate and are served communally or by the fire pit. A swimming pool deck looks out over the valley and vines beyond.
