Busua Beach Resort

Set on a broad run of sand in the fishing town of Busua, in Ghana's Ahanta West district, the resort faces the open Atlantic between Accra and Abidjan. The coast here is lined with palm-thatched huts and small boats, and the beach itself runs wide and flat at low tide. Sixty-two rooms and suites are built in chalet style, each with a private balcony that looks out over the water or the resort's gardens and pool terraces. Suites come with their own kitchenette and living room. It is a straightforward layout. Two restaurants serve Ghanaian and continental dishes, one in a thatched hut modelled on a northern-style village house, the other looking straight onto the sea. A lobby bar stocks wine and cocktails for evening arrivals. Guests can swim in one of three outdoor pools, play tennis on the on-site court, or walk down to the beach for kayaking and volleyball. Fort Metal Cross stands a short walk west, and the smaller port town of Dixcove lies a few kilometres further along the coast. You can hear the surf from most of the ocean-facing balconies. Conference rooms and a business centre serve daytime meetings, while children have a playground and a dedicated pool. The resort has operated in Busua for more than four decades.
