Cala de Mar Resort & Spa Ixtapa

Arrival at Cala de Mar means a climb up a rock cliff on Mexico's Pacific coast, about 25 minutes from Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo airport. Every guestroom faces the ocean and opens onto a terrace with its own heated plunge pool, several finished infinity-edge so the water seems to run straight into the sea beyond. Suites range from the Cliffside Ocean Front, at 580 to 750 square feet, up to the Penthouse Master Suite at the top of the property, with 980 to 1,250 square feet and a hammock strung across its terrace. Family Adjoining Suites add a second bedroom and bathroom, useful for groups travelling together. A personal assistant is assigned to each stay, handling everything from dinner reservations to airport transfers. Spa El Capricho draws on Aztec healing traditions and local ingredients, set with views of sand and sky. Two outdoor pools sit below the suites, and bicycles are kept on hand for riding the trails through the surrounding forest. It is a quiet, cliff-top base. Guests can hear the Pacific from bed most mornings, before breakfast on the terrace. The resort's chef runs small cooking sessions built around a market visit, capped at two guests for a hands-on pace. Cala de Mar received a Michelin Key in September 2024, recognition that sits alongside its long-standing reputation among Mexico's beach resorts.
