Camp 1

After another long day, you will find yourself at Shira 2 Camp. You will need the comforting warmth of the mess tent and awesome food by the time you get here having been hiking for up to 8 hours, ascending 1050m in conjunction with descending 750m to sleep at the lower level. Climb high sleep low is the golden rule of success on Kilimanjaro.

Whilst undoubtedly a hard day this is also one of the most scenic, and has a diversionary trip to Shira Cathedral.a huge buttress of rock surrounded by steep spires and pinnacles. There is a real sense of wilderness out here, especially as the afternoon mists rolls in.
