Can Albertí 1740

Thick stone walls and high, cool rooms mark the interior of Can Albertí 1740, a private residence the Albertí family built in Mahon in 1740. Set in the old centre of the city, on Menorca, the building reflects the architecture of the Enlightenment period under British rule, when Mahon absorbed that influence directly. It has been fully restored. Fourteen rooms and suites now run from cozy doubles of 20 to 26 m² up to suites of 35 to 45 m², one with its own terrace, each finished in a Menorcan style paired with modern fittings: air conditioning, a minibar, tea and coffee facilities. A concierge and an honesty bar sit alongside a rooftop, a good spot before heading out into the old town. Breakfast is served à la carte each morning. The hotel keeps its cultural life going too, hosting art and cultural events on a regular basis, a quiet nod to the artistic history of the Albertí family who once lived here. It is a compact stay. From the door, the historic streets of Mahon spread out, and Menorca beyond them, an island UNESCO has named a Biosphere Reserve for its coastline and countryside. The hotel works as well as a calm base for the night as it does a starting point for the rest of the island's beaches and inland roads.
