Canyon Lodge Gondwana Collection Namibia
Canyon Lodge stands in Gondwana Canyon Park on the C37, twenty kilometres from Fish River Canyon — one of the largest canyons on earth. The park was formed by removing the fences of ten farms to restore the land to open terrain, and the lodge sits inside that recovered landscape among granite boulders, with quiver trees across the surrounding plain.
Thirty stone chalets follow walkways through the boulders; the rock is incorporated into the rooms themselves, not just the surroundings. Standard twin rooms have en-suite shower bathrooms and air conditioning. Two family rooms are larger and open-plan, each sleeping two adults and a child, one with a bath only and one with both bath and shower.
Guided activities run morning and evening. The morning hike covers roughly six kilometres into the park with a guide and takes around three hours. A sunrise walk drives you to a viewpoint, then returns on foot to the lodge in about an hour. After dinner, a three-kilometre night walk uses UV lights and a laser pointer to find nocturnal animals. For the canyon itself, a guided drive takes guests to the two main viewpoints overlooking the Fish River Canyon — useful if you are arriving by fly-in and prefer not to drive the gravel roads yourself. A sundowner drive through the park lasts around three hours.
The lodge has a restaurant, bar, and pool. Guided bird watching and self-guided walks are also available on site.
