Set in a colonial mansion in San Isidro, Old Havana's most creative district and part of the city's UNESCO World Heritage site, AS Boutique Residence occupies a house of exposed brick, antique doors and ironwork left over from an earlier life. Ceilings run five metres high throughout. The hotel keeps nine suites, adults only, ranging from the 35 m² Junior Loft to an 85 m² Penthouse Suite, plus a Grand Salon, an organic restaurant and Art Gallery HAV downstairs. Book the whole house and it sleeps up to 18 across 650 m². Rooms mix loft-style contemporary furniture with the building's original brickwork and doors, a deliberate pairing of old plaster and new design. Several patios planted as tropical gardens break up the ground floor, and a rooftop terrace looks out over Old Havana's rooftops and street life below. The terrace doubles as a venue for sunrise and sunset yoga classes and, on request, private dinners of five to eight courses under the gallery's original ceiling height. A ground-floor café, HAV Coffee & Art, serves organic breakfast and brunch inside the gallery space. The hotel also runs an Artist in Residence programme, hosting writers, painters, musicians and other practitioners for two-week stays built around workshops, gallery visits and studio time with Cuban artists. Guided tours, including trips to Viñales and Trinidad, run by private classic car.
