Casa de Poço

Casa de Poço is a guest house and gallery set into a side street of the historic centre of Mindelo. The building was completed in December 2019, a 720 m² complex designed by an architect who first visited Cabo Verde in 2018 and worked with local, resource-conscious materials. Its street-facing side is clad in wood, a shield against the sun; the courtyard side steps back in green-planted balconies. A wind tower rises above the whole structure, drawing air through the rooms below. At the centre sits a green courtyard, the Quintal, with a long wooden table and an open kitchen serving drinks and snacks. The ground-floor gallery doubles as reception and hosts exhibitions, seminars, and workshops. The house holds three double rooms, three studios (ground floor accessible), and one family apartment, each with private internet access and in-room safes. Public areas are covered by video monitoring. It is a compact stay. The neighbourhood was urbanised in the late 18th century and still carries that character, with food markets, boutiques, and coffee shops within walking distance. The sea is visible from the property, and the beach promenade lies about five minutes away on foot.
