Case Nyala
Set within the Cirque de Cilaos, a volcanic amphitheatre listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, La Case Nyala stands a short walk from the town centre, its thermal baths and its trailheads. The house holds four standard rooms, one convertible to a triple, and a separate garden bungalow with its own terrace facing the circus ramparts and a small spa bath. Rooms are simple: private bathroom, dehumidifier, flat-screen television, heating for cooler nights, and linen made in Réunion. Breakfast is homemade, served on a bright veranda, with jams, pancakes and traditional Cilaos baguette. There is no restaurant on site. Instead the hosts, Marjorie and Anthony, arrange dinners with local restaurants or, for larger groups, a wood-fired carry cooked and delivered to the house. Anthony is a qualified mountain guide and can lead hikes toward Piton des Neiges, Marla or the Bras Rouge waterfall, or arrange treatment discounts at the Cilaos spa. Marjorie, drawn to the crafts of the valley, fills the house with local work: engraved gourds, woven walls, paintings by artists she knows personally. A fireplace lounge and a small library of books give guests somewhere to sit out the mountain weather. It is a compact, family-run base for exploring one of the island's three volcanic circuses on foot.
