Challhuaquen Lodge

Challhuaquen Lodge is a six-suite property set on a bluff above the Futaleufú River, facing the peaks of Los Alerces National Park in Chubut Province. The name comes from Mapuche and means fishing place, a fitting title for a lodge built entirely around the river below it. Each suite has its own layout, a private bathroom with hairdryer and radiator heating, and a window framing the water and the mountains beyond. The setting is remote: the nearest town, Trevelin, lies some 30 km away along a gravel road, and reception has said as much to arriving guests. Days run on an all-inclusive structure that folds together meals, wine, transfers, fishing licences and guided time on the water into a single stay. Professional guides work the Futaleufú, the Rivadavia, and a handful of spring creeks and lakes across the national park, floating or wading depending on the river and the season. Non-anglers have options too: excursions into Los Alerces, boat trips past the Torrecillas glacier, horseback rides, and a narrow-gauge train ride on La Trochita. Evenings close with a kitchen turning out Patagonian and international dishes, paired with a private cellar of Argentine wine. A mountain spa, sauna and jacuzzi face the same river view as the suites. It is a small, fixed base for a large stretch of water.
