Charlestina Beach Resort
Ampenyi's beach resort near Elmina, close to Cape Coast's castles

Arriving by the coast road off Ayensudo Junction, guests reach a stretch of private beach at Ampenyi, a short drive from Elmina and Cape Coast. The resort is built as a cluster of detached cottages and chalets set around gardens and a pool, rather than a single block. The Royal Suite occupies its own bungalow, with a queen bed, a verandah, and a table looking over both garden and sea. Seaview and Garden View suites follow a simpler plan: twin or queen beds, a balcony, air conditioning, and a writing desk, with fridge and TV as standard. Round Houses, the resort's smallest category, keep to twin beds and plain decor. You can walk straight from most rooms onto the beach, where fishing boats work the shallows and the sand suits wading more than lounging. A restaurant and bar serve breakfast and dinner buffets, with a cocktail stand by the pool for evenings. The grounds also host a kid's playground, event space, and summer huts, and the resort runs guided tours out to Elmina Castle and other sites along the Cape Coast. It is a family-run operation, overseen by its directors on site. Airport transfers and round-the-clock security are part of the standard offer. The beach itself is unassuming rather than postcard-perfect, but the setting, close to some of Ghana's most significant historic sites, gives the stay its real draw.
