Chem Chem Lodge

Chem Chem Lodge sits inside a 20,000-hectare exclusive-use protected wildlife area in the Burunge corridor between Lake Manyara and Tarangire, with views across game-filled plains to the lake's shoreline. A waterhole in front of the lodge draws plains game through the day.

The lodge holds eight tented suites: seven Luxury Tented Suites of one hundred square metres each, built from canvas, wood, lava rock, and cotton, with a verandah, outside shower, and lounge area; and one family unit where a main suite connects by a small wooden bridge to a children's annex sleeping up to three. Each suite is at least eighty metres from its nearest neighbour. A pool, spa, gym, and library are on site.

Every booking comes with a private guide and open safari vehicle of up to eight seats. Day and night game drives run within the concession; night drives are restricted to the private wildlife area. Guided walks — including a silent walk led by a Maasai guide ending with a baobab drink, a six-to-ten-kilometre power walk, and a sunrise hike up Vilimia Vitatu Hill — are offered alongside cultural visits to nearby Maasai and Barabaig communities. Hot air ballooning and day trips to Tarangire, Lake Manyara National Park, and the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area are bookable at an additional cost.

The kitchen runs a three-course à la carte menu at lunch and dinner, drawing herbs from the lodge's own garden. A bush dinner, served from a mobile Land Rover kitchen by lantern light, is included in stays of four nights or more.
