Chikoko Tree Camp
Three raised chalets under acacia canopy eight kilometres above Tafika on the Luangwa
Skip to product information
Wooden stairs climb alongside each chalet to a bedroom raised into the acacia canopy. The camp sits eight kilometres upstream from Tafika Camp within South Luangwa National Park, beneath a grove of mature acacias that opens onto plains beyond. Three chalets split the structure across two floors: the bedroom occupies the raised platform, and the bathroom sits at ground level. Each front wall is open to the canopy and the plains that stretch behind it. The shower is outdoors, enclosed only by sky.
Walking safaris leave from the camp led by a guide, an armed National Park scout, and a tea bearer. Routes follow wildlife trails through terrain that vehicles cannot reach. You track animals on foot through wilderness unmarked by tyre prints. The camp operates from 25 May to 31 October. Minimum age is twelve. Chalets include two twins fitted with three-quarter beds and one double; both configurations hold mosquito nets, cotton linen, a deck, a fireplace, and a safe. The outdoor shower opens to stars at night.
The camp has a bar, a restaurant, and communal dining. Laundry is complimentary. Staff speak English. Battery charging is available. Game viewing hides, canoeing, and gourmet picnics can be arranged through the lodge. Check-in is at noon; check-out at ten o'clock.
