Chogogo Dive & Beach Resort

Jan Thiel Bay opens flat and turquoise below the terraces at Chogogo, the water shallow enough near shore to see the sandy bottom before it drops toward the reef. Salt air and the low hum of the pool bar carry across the grounds most afternoons. Founded in 1997, this was the first beach resort built on the bay, and the layout still favours easy movement between room and water: paths run through planted greenery to a shared pool, hot tubs and a stretch of beach. The 189 accommodations range from studios to bungalows and apartments, each with its own kitchen and a furnished living area, so the property functions as much like a self-catered base as a hotel. Salú Restaurant & Bar handles breakfast through dinner on site. Divers work from a resort partnership with Dive Center Scuba Do, which runs boat trips out to Curaçao's reef walls and the calmer bay water for beginners. It is not a hushed retreat. Families and repeat guests fill the pool deck and the bar through the day, and the resort counts roughly 15,000 visitors a year. Snorkelling gear goes straight off the sand. The overall feel is unpretentious and practical: a working beach resort built for time in and around the water, not around it.
