Club Tadoussac/Auberge La Tanière

The water at Club Tadoussac runs still, a lake the colour of pewter under the porch at Lake Boulanger. Chalets line its shore, numbered six through ten among the larger stock, each with a wood stove or electric heat and room enough for a family or a group of up to twenty. It is a working outfitter, not a resort. The club holds exclusive fishing and hunting rights across the surrounding territory, and its twenty-three lakes carry brook trout in numbers that anglers travel for. A day's package runs to a rowboat and a quota of ten trout, fifteen in possession, gear and permit extra. Guides run beaver-watching trips by quad through beech and spruce, and kayaks and pedal boats sit ready on a small sand beach for those who'd rather drift than fish. Winter turns the same shoreline into a snowmobile relay, linked to the Trans-Québec 3 trail, with a hot supper and continental breakfast for riders passing through toward Charlevoix or the Monts-Valin. Snowshoe trails, cut with regional forestry funding, wind past the chalets. Ice fishing runs from mid-January to mid-March, ice permitting. Tadoussac itself, with its whale-watching boats and maritime museum, sits eight kilometres down the road.
