A colonial-house hotel steps from Salento's plaza, near the wax palms

Cocli Hotel Boutique Salento is a small hotel a few steps from Salento's main plaza, in Colombia's coffee-growing region of Quindio. The building itself carries the evidence of its age: one room, Paramillo de Santa Rosa, looks onto an interior corridor where a bahareque wall shows the woven-cane-and-mud technique used in colonial construction. Six rooms are named for peaks in the region — Nevado del Ruiz, Nevado del Tolima, Nevado del Quindio, Nevado del Cisne and Nevado Santa Isabel among them. Each has a private bathroom, and most open onto a private terrace or garden. Furniture throughout runs to bamboo, paired with wood-framed windows that catch views of the town's rooftops or the hotel's internal garden. A restaurant serves regional dishes. The Waraba Spa offers massage treatments, including a signature 120-minute full-body session aimed at the back, shoulders and neck. The hotel arranges transfers from the airports at Armenia and Pereira, and can help book day trips into the Cocora Valley, home to the wax palm. Check-in guests find themselves close enough to the plaza to walk it in minutes. It is a compact stay, built for couples rather than groups, and the plaza is close enough that you can hear the town's evening activity from the garden.
