Walking to the lagoon within minutes, guests find de Baken tucked into the Lagoon suburb of Walvis Bay, close enough to the water that a stand-up paddleboard outing or a stroll to the Anchor restaurant needs no car. The property holds seven self-catering units, each built and decorated to its own theme, from the industrial lines of Slap Snoek to the panoramic upstairs view of Captain's Cabin. Every unit has a full kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave and cutlery, along with fibre WiFi and Netflix. Most come with a private braai area for grilling outdoors, and secure parking, either an attached garage or a courtyard space. Sandy Bottoms and Flirty Flamingo sleep four across two rooms; Slap Snoek and Pelican Crossing suit two. It is a compact base for exploring the coast. Sandwich Harbour and Pelican Point sit a short drive away, reachable without crossing through the town centre, and quad biking at the nearby dunes is a common detour. The design leans on handcrafted cupboards and shelving alongside contemporary fixtures, giving each unit a distinct character rather than a uniform finish. Check-in and daily life run entirely self-catered, with kitchens stocked for cooking rather than dining out, though the walk to the Lagoon's restaurants remains short.
