Deplar Farm

Turf grows thick across the roofline, black timber cladding sinks the building into the hillside, and floor-to-ceiling glass pulls the Troll Peninsula's peaks straight into the rooms. Deplar Farm occupies a 15th-century sheep farm in Iceland's Fljót Valley, remade as a lodge with 13 rooms, most set as king rooms and several with sleeping lofts. The mid-century furniture and warm colour work sit against raw stone and wood, a pairing more Reykjavík gallery than farmhouse. A geothermally heated pool runs indoor to outdoor beneath the spa's glass walls, with a swim-up bar at one end and an outdoor Viking-style sauna nearby. The spa itself covers 5,000 square feet and includes flotation tanks, a sound bathing studio, and three treatment rooms. Two helipads sit just outside, put to use for heli-skiing runs that drop from summit toward the coast. In summer the same terrain opens to hiking, e-biking, and whale watching under close to 24 hours of daylight. You can hear the pool's filtration hum through the spa's glass panels while snow gathers on the peaks outside. A recording studio, Flóki Studios, occupies a separate space on the property, fitted with instruments and mics for anyone inclined to work between adventures. Meals draw on lake char, hillside berries, and lamb raised nearby. It is a small lodge built for long, deliberate days outside.
