Desert Camp
Part of Phasec create
Desert Camp sits under old camel thorn trees at Sesriem, five kilometres from the Namib-Naukluft Park gate that opens to Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon. The camp runs on a self-catering model: each of the twenty-eight units has a fitted kitchenette, barbecue, fridge, en-suite bathroom, shaded veranda, and its own parking bay. Twin beds are standard, with a fold-out sleeper couch that fits two children under twelve. Cooking equipment is available to borrow from reception, and if you have not stocked up before arrival, daily food orders can be arranged through the camp.
The main building has a bar, a swimming pool, and two communal bomas with shared cooking and washing facilities — useful for groups travelling together. If you prefer not to cook, the Sossusvlei Lodge restaurant is about five minutes down the road toward the park, and you can eat there.
Activities are booked through the Sossusvlei Lodge Adventure Centre nearby. Options include guided excursions to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei departing at sunrise, a guided nature walk on the Elim Dune Belt focused on tracks and plant species, a Sesriem Canyon excursion with an experienced guide, a late-afternoon sundowner drive on the lodge's private reserve, hot air ballooning over the dune sea with a champagne breakfast at the landing point, and scenic flights in a six-seater Cessna over the vlei and canyon. Self-guided walks are possible directly from the camp. A service station with a shop and fuel is on site at Sesriem.
