Dewa Thimphu

Set into forest above the Khasadapchu valley, The Postcard Dewa sits close enough to Thimphu to reach the city easily but far enough to keep the noise out. The hotel holds just 15 keys: 13 rooms and two suites, each facing the mountains and the Wang Chhu river below. It is a small hotel by design. Rooms run from 995 to 2,100 square feet, generous by any measure, finished with natural light and local materials and each with its own private sit-out for morning tea or coffee. The Dewa Suite goes further, with a private garden, a terrace and a dining gazebo set apart from the main building. Downstairs, the kitchen leans on Bhutanese staples: ema datshi, maru and paksha paa, alongside red rice, buckwheat and trout pulled from nearby rivers. The spa borrows from local wellness traditions, including a hot stone bath for aching legs after the hiking trails that lead to nearby monasteries. There is a temperature-controlled pool for those who prefer to swim rather than soak. You can arrange a picnic by the river or a guided walk to a seventh-century temple overlooking the valley. Paro International Airport is around 40 minutes by road, roughly 35 km away. The drive in climbs through forest before the hotel appears, a quiet, low building against a steep hillside. It reads as a mountain base built for slow days rather than sightseeing lists.
