Diamonds Athuruga
One island, a lagoon, and two villa styles in South Ari Atoll
Skip to product information
Diamonds Athuruga is a single coral island in South Ari Atoll, ringed by a shallow lagoon and reached by a scenic seaplane hop of about 20 minutes from Malé. The island is small enough to circle on foot, with white sand running to a reef drop-off just off the shore. Rooms split into three types: suites, beachfront villas and overwater villas, each with a furnished veranda, minibar and air conditioning. Beach villas sit close enough to the water for direct access, their terraces fitted with armchairs, a low table and an open-air shower under the sea breeze. Overwater villas open straight onto the lagoon, so mornings often start with a kayak paddle before the island wakes. A resident marine biologist runs weekly snorkelling trips and evening talks on the reef, covering species from angelfish and parrotfish to the manta rays and whale sharks that pass through South Ari Atoll. The house reef itself is under active restoration, with coral nursery beds tended just off the beach. Thari Over Water Bar stands on stilts above the lagoon for sunset drinks, while Boli Beach Bar sits at sand level. It is a compact island, built around water rather than around itself. A dive centre, spa, library and boutique round out the facilities, alongside restaurants serving under an all-inclusive plan.
