Dutch Manor Mattancherry
Eleven rooms in Mattancherry, tracing three centuries of Dutch trade history
Dutch Manor is a boutique hotel built into the old trading quarter of Mattancherry, where the Dutch East India Company once ran its Kerala business. The district still carries that mixed past in its street plan and its buildings, and Dutch Manor takes its cues from it directly. It holds eleven rooms across three categories, Premium, Luxury and Suite, each between 300 and 500 square feet. Furniture is built in the Malabar style, block-printed textiles are colour-matched room by room, and each room carries one original artwork of a scene from Fort Kochi or Mattancherry. Bathrooms run larger than standard hotel size in every category.
The in-house restaurant, the Eetkamer, serves Malabar dishes such as prawns ularthiyathu and meen curry alongside Dutch dishes, including Breudher bread from local bakers who first brought the recipe to Kerala. Desserts come from ZeraNoya, a Dutch bakery in the region; Dutch Manor is the first hotel to serve them beyond the bakery itself. A library and coffee room, the Koffiehuis, pairs books with Malabar coffee and Dutch pastries. Guests can also use a games room with table tennis and snooker, and bicycles are kept on hand for riding into town. The Dutch Palace and the Chinese fishing nets are both a short walk or ride away. It is a compact stay, and a quiet one.
