Elements Watersports & Nature Resort

The lagoon at Kappalady runs flat and glassy, walled off from the open sea and lined with mangroves, while the beach out front takes the full push of wind off the Gulf of Mannar. Elements Beach & Nature Resort sits on that stretch of coast, its villas and palm tree houses built almost entirely from coconut palm trunks, rafters, and thatch. It is a working stretch of shoreline, not a manicured one. The property spans 22 acres and holds around 700 coconut trees, with rooms styled as beach villas, lagoon villas on stilts over the water, and palm tree houses raised into the canopy. Each has an open-air rainfall shower and an upper deck; lagoon villas add a private pier. You can hear sea eagles most mornings, and spinner dolphins gather roughly three nautical miles offshore between October and March, sometimes alongside blue whales further out on the continental shelf. The resort runs its own kite and wingfoiling school on site, taking advantage of winds that hold steady for much of the year, and organises dolphin trips, horse riding on the beach, and kayaking through the lagoon's mangrove channels. Meals run through a beachfront restaurant and beach club, with a weekly barbecue of local catch such as barracuda and tiger prawn. Solar power, an on-site garden, and a working ox handle much of the resort's upkeep. Wilpattu National Park lies about ninety minutes inland by road.
