Emirambi Gorilla Safari Lodge

On Kempungu Hill, above the Rushaga sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Emirambi Gorilla Safari Lodge looks out over folded ridges the Bakiga call emirambi, or hills. The lodge sits roughly 2,000 metres up, ten minutes by road from the Rushaga visitor centre where rangers brief trekkers before the climb into gorilla territory. It is a compact stay. Seven standalone cottages and one two-bedroom family cottage were completed in June 2025, each with an ensuite bathroom, a private balcony and a mosquito net over the bed. Rooms run from single to family-sized, with the honeymoon and double cottages facing the forest and the family cottage adding a private lounge and sweeping views of the highlands. Solar power with backup keeps lights and hot water running through the night. Meals are served in an open-sided dining room built around Ugandan staples and international dishes, with a bar pouring local banana wine and waragi alongside imported wines. Guides lead treks into Rushaga's habituated gorilla families, walks range from two to six hours, and guests get a full hour with the gorillas once found. Forest walks and cycling routes fan out from the lodge into tea country and nearby Bakiga and Batwa villages, and over 350 recorded bird species keep early risers on the balcony before breakfast.
