Escondido Lodge

Set among the irrigated farmland of western Cordoba province, Escondido Lodge sits close to fields of peanut, sunflower and sorghum that draw dense numbers of doves and pigeons. The surrounding roosts count among the largest in Argentina, a product of the crop mix and irrigation rather than any design. Dove hunting runs year round here. Pigeon season is shorter, opening in late March and closing in the first week of August. Guides organise each day's hunt around the roosts and flight lines, moving groups between blinds to keep the shooting varied rather than static. Field lunches are laid out mid-hunt, a practical break built into the long days rather than an afterthought. Back at the lodge, rooms are kept plain and comfortable, built for hunters coming in dust-covered at the end of a day rather than for lounging. Vehicles and guns are serviced and cleaned daily, a detail that matters given the volume of rounds fired on a typical outing. The lodge functions less as a destination in its own right than as a base tuned to one purpose: getting guests into position where the birds are moving. Transfers to and from the fields are arranged by the lodge team each morning.
