Estación Hostel

Estación Hostel is a converted house on Pedro Montt in Castro, facing a square rebuilt from the wreck of the town's old railway. The Henschel locomotive that once hauled timber across Chiloé's hills, built in Germany in 1912, still stands across the street; the 1960 earthquake that sank this shoreline neighbourhood ended the rail line but left the engine as a landmark. The plaza around it was renovated in 2025, with new lighting and paved paths that keep the mud off after rain. Rooms run from a private studio with its own kitchenette and king bed to shared singles for solo travellers, one fitted with a desk. A double room looks over the water toward Butalcura. The house keeps a wood-fired living room, a dining table that seats fifteen, and a kitchen guests are free to cook in, alongside a covered terrace, a reading room, and hot water around the clock. Breakfast and laundry run as paid extras rather than fixed inclusions. Castro's wooden churches, its waterfront market, and the ferries to Quinchao and Lemuy all sit within easy reach on foot or by short taxi. In winter, dolphins still work the fjord past the front door, rain or not. Reception runs from 9am to 11pm daily.
