Eye Hotel

Eye Hotel is set in a 17th-century building just behind Voorstraat, in the middle of Utrecht. The address once housed a clinic for eye patients, founded in 1858 under the physiologist Franciscus Donders, and the hotel keeps traces of that history in its name and its rooms rather than in any museum display. Cafés, vintage shops and design stores line the surrounding streets, and the Dom Tower and the old canals are a short walk away. It is a compact stay, run as part of a small group of boutique hotels in the city. Rooms vary by floor and by age of the building: Cosy Rooms under the roof keep original wooden beams, Comfort Rooms have a patio or a view, and Superior Rooms open onto taller windows with sightlines over the old town. One Suite, added during renovation, has a bath and a separate double shower. Two Family Rooms are fitted out for stays with young children. Breakfast is prepared on site, and bikes can be hired directly from reception for exploring the centre. You can walk to Utrecht Centraal station in about ten minutes. The Saturday textile market sets up right outside the door, a fitting detail for a hotel built on close looking.
