Falling Leaves Lodge

Carpeted daily in fallen leaves from the canopy that surrounds it, Falling Leaves Lodge covers 3.4 acres on Cahal Pech Hill, just behind the Cahal Pech Maya Reserve in San Ignacio. The greenery presses close on every side. It is a compact stay, limited to nineteen rooms across six categories, from standard rooms tucked under the restaurant to treetop rooms on the upper floor of the Vacation House with a shared balcony over the grounds. Stone House rooms take a rougher, rustic form, built with local stone and furnished by carpenters from the district; the Deluxe version sleeps up to four across a king and a queen bed. You can walk to the Cahal Pech ruin in two minutes, and the largest ceremonial cave sites in the country are a short drive away. Each room carries a private bathroom, air conditioning, a mini fridge stocked with water and coffee, and a hot-and-cold shower — no frills, but nothing missing either. An on-site restaurant and a full-service spa round out the grounds, alongside a pool set among the trees. San Ignacio itself sits on the Macal River, a market town where Saturdays draw Mestizo, Maya, Mennonite, and Garifuna traders together for food and produce. The lodge functions as a base for cave tours, ruin visits, and rainforest trails, its jungle setting a short walk from town rather than a remove from it.
