French Coco

French Coco is a 17-suite hotel built into a fishing village on Martinique's Atlantic coast, at the edge of the Presqu'île de la Caravelle Nature Reserve. It is a small, garden-led address rather than a resort. Sixteen of the suites have their own pool, each screened by planting so that guests look out on foliage rather than a neighbouring terrace. Rooms run across four categories, from the compact Ti Suite to the larger Presqu'île Suite, and favour raw, natural materials over polish. The garden itself is planted thick with lemongrass, jasmine and ylang-ylang, and butterflies move through it most of the day. At YLANGA, the hotel's restaurant, chef Igor Faustin cooks Creole dishes shaped by contemporary technique, having trained under established chefs before returning to run this kitchen. The name comes from the ylang-ylang trees that shade its tables. A concierge team, led by a dedicated chef concierge, handles requests beyond the property line, from local contacts to arranging a day off the grounds. Service here reads personal rather than procedural. The hotel sits in Tartane, a working fishing village, which keeps the setting unpolished at the edges and genuine. It is a quiet, plant-heavy base for exploring Martinique's Atlantic side, built for slow mornings more than itineraries.
