Fretheim Fjordhytter

Fretheim Fjordhytter is a set of four wooden cabins built by a farming family on the edge of the Aurlandsfjord, an arm of the Sognefjord. Anders Fretheim's family has worked this land since the middle ages, running sheep, cattle and now organic apples on the farm above the water. Sue, his wife, arrived from Melbourne over thirty years ago and the two began renting out a small house before building the cabins that stand today. Their four adult children now help run the business alongside the farm. Each cabin holds three bedrooms and sleeps up to six, with an open-plan lounge and kitchen looking straight onto the fjord and the mountains behind it. A wood burner heats the ground floor, wood included. Upstairs are two more bedrooms and a second toilet; downstairs, a bathroom, washing machine and dryer. It is a short walk to the Flåm railway station and harbour, and to the village's grocery store, bakery and restaurants. A separate tiny house sits in the family's old organic orchard nearby, suited to two guests with a sofa bed for a third. Bed linen and towels come with every stay, and each cabin has private parking and a terrace with outdoor furniture. Pets are not permitted.
