Giellajohka

Set between Kaamanen and Karigasniemi in Finnish Lapland, Giellajohka sits on land that has held travellers' lodging for more than six decades. The current owners have run it as a family business since 2016. Forest and river surround the property, and the site sits far enough from artificial light to count among the region's better spots for the northern lights. Accommodation ranges from self-catering cabins to a wooden guesthouse and gravel pitches for caravans and tents. Taiga and Routa each sleep up to six across three bedrooms in a 50 m² cabin, with a glass wall facing the river and the sky; guests can watch the aurora from bed on a clear night. Aurora Tower fits three across two bedrooms, with a desk built for remote work. Halla is smaller, at 25 m², with a single bedroom for two. The guesthouse, Ahku, holds one- to four-person rooms with shared kitchen and living space, or lets as a whole house for up to ten. A restaurant on site cooks Lappish dishes from local and self-caught ingredients, including reindeer and pike. Outside, the grounds run to reindeer, huskies, and marked trails for snowshoeing, skiing, and snowmobile trips. Check-in details are handled directly with the property.
