Girraween Environmental Lodge

Built from recycled hardwood and plantation pine, each chalet at Girraween Environmental Lodge stands alone in granite-strewn bushland, timber walls weathering to match the grey boulders scattered through the trees. The lodge occupies 400 acres bordered by Girraween National Park, and its 15 km of walking trails cross creeks and open fields where kangaroos graze undisturbed. Frost silvers the grass on winter mornings; summer nights cool fast under clear, unlit skies. Rooms come in one, two and family configurations, the largest sleeping six across bunk beds and a king. Every chalet has its own plunge pool, a wood-fired heater, and a kitchen stocked for self-catering, with a shared outdoor spa kept apart for stargazing. You can hear little beyond birdsong and wind in the eucalypts from the deck. Solar panels and battery storage supply most of the power, and rainwater once ran the taps until health rules confined it to pools and toilets; sewage is treated on site and effluent monitored. Firewood comes only from fallen timber. The property is registered with Land for Wildlife as a conservation site, its trails kept deliberately narrow and unobtrusive. Wi-Fi is confined to the guest lounge near reception; chalets stay offline by design. Granite Belt wineries and cellar doors lie a short drive off, along with markets and walking routes through the park itself. Check-in starts at 3pm.
