Glendine Country House

Lit by a Waterford crystal chandelier at the entrance, Glendine Country House sets its Georgian rooms with antiques, family photographs and paintings by local artists. Built in 1830 and fully refurbished in 2010, the house stands in fifty acres of garden and paddock above the bay of Arthurstown, on the Hook Peninsula in County Wexford. The land is worked as much as admired: Jacob sheep, Highland cattle and fallow deer graze the paddocks around the house, and guests are free to walk the grounds. It is a family home first. Ann and Tom have run it as a bed and breakfast for nearly twenty-five years, continuing a house that has belonged to the family for over seventy. Bedrooms keep their original pitch pine floors and wooden shutters, several looking out over the estuary; other rooms carry sea views, television, wifi and a tea station with its own fridge. Breakfast is à la carte or cooked, taken before a day on the coast. The drawing room holds a marble fireplace for the evening. Waterford Crystal's factory is thirty minutes off, Kilkenny an hour, and Rosslare Harbour under fifty minutes for those arriving by ferry. Dogs may stay in the bedrooms under supervision, and the property has EV charging on site.
