Glenshee Glamping

Built up from a working Perthshire farm, Glenshee Glamping has grown from a scatter of huts into a ten-acre site of pods, cabins and one restored railway wagon. The wagon itself dates to around 1941, an LMS goods carriage fitted out with a double bed, two bunks and a wood-burning stove, its deck facing fields grazed by llamas and highland cattle. Two shepherds' huts on site have been brought back from disrepair rather than built new, sitting in open meadow with views to Mount Blair. Each stay includes a wood-fired hot tub, filled with spring water and no added chemicals. Guests share a farmhouse-style kitchen and dining room known as the Bothy, along with renovated shower blocks. There is no street light for miles. Days run to woodland skills courses, beaver-watching on the River Ericht, fishing, and a nine-hole hill course said to be among Britain's highest. In winter, Glenshee Ski Centre lies a short drive off, with 22 lifts across the UK's largest network of runs. The farm keeps its own donkeys, llamas and goats, which graze the fields between accommodation. It is a working site, not a resort, and it reads that way: firepits over lit paths, a Bothy instead of a restaurant, animals rather than a spa. Check-in is arranged through the main house next to the Bothy.
