Meet the Batwa People

This full-day outing near Gorilla Forest Lodge introduces guests to the Batwa, long-standing residents of the Great Lakes region who once lived within Bwindi's forest. The morning covers a three-hour walk through dense woodland, tracing routes the Batwa historically used for hunting and gathering. Afterwards, guests spend around an hour with a Batwa group, watching a music performance, a re-enactment involving a local deity figure, and demonstrations of traditional hunting and gathering skills. Elders share stories about their former forest life and how they have adapted since leaving it. It is a chance to hear the community's history directly from its members.
