Gorilla Solution Lodge
Ten cottages face the Virunga Volcanoes at the gateway to gorilla trekking
Skip to product information
Facing the Virunga range across open gardens, Gorilla Solutions Lodge lines up views of Karisimbi, Bisoke, Sabyinyo, Muhabura and Gahinga from every private veranda. The lodge sits in Kinigi, a short walk along a tarmac road from the Volcanoes National Park headquarters, where gorilla trekking groups gather each morning for briefing. Ten cottages make up the property: two family units, one twin room, and seven singles and doubles, each with its own bathroom and a sitting area. Rooms can be reconfigured for couples, solo travellers or families depending on the group. It is a small, workable base. The restaurant runs a local and international menu, and the bar stays stocked through the evening. Beyond gorilla trekking, the lodge arranges golden monkey treks, hikes up Bisoke and Karisimbi, visits to Dian Fossey's grave, and walks through the Musanze caves. Staff also organise trips to Ibyiwacu village nearby, where a resident craft shop sells hats, bags and woven goods made by local artisans. You can watch the volcanoes change colour from the veranda before a dawn trek. Check-in doubles as an informal briefing point, with the lounge, fireplace included, used for arrivals as much as for evenings. After a day on the trails, the washrooms offer hot water and clean towels, plain comforts that matter more than they sound after a climb.
