Gunpowder House and Suites
Thirty-two rooms across four 18th-century buildings and five cottages, split by a private harbour
Set into weathered stone and timber, the original Admiral's Inn building holds its 18th-century beams and floors intact, while across the water the Gunpowder wing reads distinctly modern, glass and clean lines above an infinity pool. The two sides face each other across a small bay inside Nelson's Dockyard. A private boat connects them. Thirty-two rooms and suites run across eight styles, from loft suites with sea views to ground-floor rooms opening onto garden patios and daybeds. Several rooms keep original pillars and wooden beams as a visible link to the site's history, while others are fitted with modern bathrooms and sitting areas built for longer stays. The Joiner's Loft rooms, reached by stairs only, look over the working dockyard itself. You can watch yachts move through the channel from a harbour-view balcony. Pillars restaurant occupies the Admiral's Inn side, in a quiet corner of the old dockyard; Boom sits by the pool on the Gunpowder headland. Gardens border the inn, dense and green against the pale stone. Bikes and cars are available to rent on site, useful given the area's pull for hikers and snorkellers working the coastline beyond the harbour mouth.
