Head Over Hills

Founded in 2014 by Martin and Therese Hansson, Head over Hills is an eight-room hotel set on the cliff edge of the Knysna Heads on South Africa's Garden Route coast. Four suites and four deluxe rooms occupy the property; all units face the ocean or lagoon and open onto private balconies. Every room is fitted with a Hästens bed imported from Sweden—three hold the T2000 model, the remainder the Superia or Super king or queen size. The Elephant Suite, on the ground floor, includes a sauna, separate shower, fireplace, and deck with privacy glass. The Captain's Suite integrates the spa bath into the bedroom via full-width stacker doors. The Whale Suite, positioned on the eastern corner of the upper level, provides views across the ocean, Heads, and Outeniqua Mountains. One wheelchair-accessible suite is available.

A private chef composes a daily à la carte menu for lunch and dinner on request; breakfast is included and served in the dining room or on the deck. A walk-in wine cellar stocked by the owners is open to guests. The heated rim-flow pool and wooden sundeck overlook the Indian Ocean. Whale-watching takes place from the balconies during season; dolphins are visible year-round. Each room includes a Nespresso station, minibar with complimentary Cap Classique and drinks, air conditioning, safe, and wireless internet. Laundry service is available.
