HORIZONS of Bakurtsikhe

Bakurtsikhe lies in Kakheti, Georgia's wine region, where the land rolls down toward the Alazani Valley in ridges of vineyard and orchard. Horizons sits above that valley, its cottages placed to face the vines and the mountains beyond. The units arrive prefabricated and are set into the slope afterward, a method chosen to keep disturbance to the ground to a minimum. Each cottage has its own terrace, a private bathroom with a shower and robes, and a sitting area. It is a small property, built around a single outdoor pool open all year and a sauna that runs each evening.

Guests can walk down for a fire at the pit after dark or take a hand at table tennis and badminton by the garden. Panoramic swings look over the valley floor, a plain but effective way to take in the view. The restaurant serves Kakhetian food, including pork grilled over grapevine wood, and runs cooking classes for khinkali, khachapuri and churchkhela led by local cooks. Wine tastings can be booked on-site, with bottles available to take back to the terrace. Sighnaghi, the walled hill town known locally as the City of Love, is a short drive away, along with several small museums tied to regional writers and artists. Airport transfers and car hire can be arranged through the property.
