Hotel Adler Zürich

Set in the Niederdorf quarter on the banks of the Limmat River, Hotel Adler Zürich occupies a corner of the old town first recorded as a guest house in 1357. The Grossmünster and Fraumünster stand a short walk away, and Bahnhofstrasse runs from the main station down to the lake. The hotel holds 52 rooms and suites, each air-conditioned and hung with a mural of the old town's streets, a scheme spread across ten room categories from single rooms to a family suite with a sofa bed. It is rated three-star superior. Breakfast runs on Swiss staples: fresh bread, cured meats, cheese, smoked salmon, and coffee brought to the table. The in-house Swiss Chuchi restaurant has served regional dishes since 1953, among them Zürcher Geschnetzeltes with rösti and a house fondue, and it spills onto the pedestrian street outside in warmer months. You can walk to the main railway station in around ten minutes. Reception operates around the clock, useful for late arrivals off a train or a flight into Zürich. The painter Rudolf Koller is said to have spent part of his childhood within these walls, a detail the hotel still trades on in its art-themed packages. Rooms are compact, in the manner of old-town buildings, but the location puts museums, galleries, and the lake within easy reach on foot.
