Hotel Aiguaclara
Set into a mansion built in 1866, Hotel Aiguaclara occupies a corner of Begur's old town, a short walk from the parish church and the hilltop castle. The building has stood for more than 150 years, and its restoration has kept the original walls and proportions rather than replacing them. Rooms are compact and individually laid out, each with air conditioning, a desk, a wardrobe and a private bathroom stocked with free toiletries. A safety deposit box and hairdryer come as standard. Downstairs, the hotel runs its own restaurant for dinner, along with a bar, a terrace and a massage room. There is also a separate apartment on site, suited to a longer stay or a group wanting its own kitchen and terrace. Parking and a luggage room are available, along with free Wi-Fi throughout. The hotel has pushed its own sustainability measures further than most: since 2015 it has produced its own drinking water on site rather than buying bottled water, and lighting throughout the building runs on LED. From the terrace, you can watch the light shift over Begur's rooftops toward evening. The address sits in Girona province, on Spain's Costa Brava, within reach of the coastline and the region's beaches. It remains a small, family-run operation rather than a chain property.
