Hotel Catalonia Brussels

Set into a stretch of Rue Royale that runs toward the Art Nouveau quarter of Sint-Gillis, the hotel occupies ground once defined by Brussels' turn-of-the-century building boom, when the neighbourhood's façades were laid down in wrought iron and glass. The Grand Place is a ten-minute walk. Rooms are compact and function-first: air conditioning, heating, a safe, a hairdryer, and satellite television cover the basics without fuss. A restaurant operates on site, alongside a bar and a small fitness room, so guests need not leave the building for a meal or a workout. It is a straightforward base, not a destination in itself. Check-in and check-out follow standard city-hotel hours, and the layout favours efficiency over flourish, with corridors and rooms built for turnover rather than lingering. For a traveller working through central Brussels on foot, the location does most of the work: a short walk covers the Grand Place, the Art Nouveau district, and the surrounding grid of the Hoofdstedelijk Gewest. There's little pretence in the design, and that plainness is arguably the point.
