Hotel Forn Nou

Set into a former bakery in the old centre of Artà, Hotel Forn Nou keeps the name of the business that once ran from this address, owned by the grandparents of the current family behind the hotel. The four-star property has grown room by room over successive renovations, so no two are alike. Exposed wood beams, tiled or marble floors and soft natural light run through the suites and doubles; some open onto private terraces, and one suite spreads across two floors with sea views. It is a compact stay, built up rather than out. A rooftop terrace looks over the rooftops of Artà, and downstairs the restaurant serves wood-fired meats and a five-course tasting menu, with breakfast and lighter snacks by day and a longer evening carte after dark. Guests can eat on the outdoor terrace, in the old wine cellar with its open kitchen, or in a dining room that once housed a bar and a village pharmacy. A spa built into natural stone is planned, aimed at quiet, unhurried recovery. Rooms come with air conditioning, satellite TV and Wi-Fi as standard. The hotel sits within walking distance of Artà's historic streets, with several beaches and coves along the northeast coast of Mallorca reachable by car. It reads less like a hotel built from scratch than a house that has simply kept adding rooms.
