Hotel Het Heerenhuys

Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant Marknesse is a new build set partly over the water, on the edge of the Waterloopbos in Flevoland, one of the Netherlands' newest stretches of reclaimed land. The site borders Nationaal Park Weerribben-Wieden, and cycling and walking routes lead straight from the door. It is a modern property, not a historic one. The hotel holds 112 rooms, many facing the water and the surrounding green. Bar Bistro DuCo Marknesse runs the ground floor, its open kitchen built around a Josper charcoal oven that gives grilled meat and fish a smoked edge. Guests can eat there any time of day, from breakfast through to a late dinner or a drink on the bank-side terrace. Two multifunctional event rooms sit alongside the restaurant, one opening directly onto it for private dining or working lunches, the other built for training days and larger gatherings, both looking out over water and reeds. A bus stop lies under ten minutes' walk away, and parking on site is free. The picturesque village of Giethoorn, reachable by boat trip, sits nearby, as does Batavia Stad Fashion Outlet with its run of more than 150 shops. Check-in starts at 3pm; check-out runs until 11am.
