Hotel Lo Mustang

Walking out of Hotel Lo Mustang puts a guest straight into Thamel's tangle of shops and market lanes, minutes from the Asan and Indra Chowk bazaars. Inside, the register shifts: a floor-to-ceiling art piece traces scenes from Mustang, and silk cushion covers carry Tibetan patterns through the communal spaces. Rooms and suites run from a 200 sq ft Deluxe Room to a 724 sq ft Family Suite, each fitted with air conditioning, a coffee maker, a safe and a TV. Light matters here. The hotel calls its rooms sunlit and airy, a deliberate counter to the density of the street outside. Yak Restaurant and the YakGawa Terrace Bar sit on the roof, serving multi-cuisine plates and Himalayan dishes alongside cocktails with a view over Kathmandu's rooftops. Downstairs, Soul Wellness Spa offers Ayurvedic treatments, facials and massages, plus a sauna and steam room for anyone recovering from a day on foot. Swayambhunath, the temple complex known locally for its resident monkeys, is a 40-minute walk west.
