Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento
Set above the cliffs of Sant'Agnello, Hotel Mediterraneo looks straight across the Gulf of Naples toward Vesuvius. Built in 1912 as a private villa for Antonietta Lauro, it opened as a hotel in 1950 and has stayed in the same family since, through a full renovation in 2019 that reset its interiors in a contemporary key while keeping the original cliffside footprint. The hotel holds a Michelin Key. Rooms are fitted with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and a private bathroom, and look out over the bay or the garden. A private lift is the quickest route down. It drops guests directly onto La Marinella Beach, the hotel's own stretch of shore below the rock face, open with services from 15 May to 15 September. Lepietre Cozy Spa is built into the property's old tuff-stone foundations, with a sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi alongside treatment rooms using a citrus-based line made for the hotel. Up top, Vista Skybar & Dining runs from April to October, pouring cocktails as the light over the bay turns from gold to grey. Vesuvio Panoramic Restaurant handles dinner service, plating Campanian dishes under chef Nicola Celentano, while Aqua Pool Lounge covers lunch beside the pool terrace. Two boats, a 14-metre Princess Valeri yacht and a wooden Gozzo aMare, run charters to Capri and along the Amalfi Coast from the beach below.
