Hotel San Gian

Set directly across from the Signal cable car, Hotel San Gian puts skiers and hikers on the mountain within minutes. Fifty guest rooms have been renovated in a contemporary style, several panelled in local pine that carries a faint resinous scent through the space. Rooms come in five categories, from Komfort through Superior, Superior Plus, Deluxe, and family layouts, each with Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, a minibar and a private bathroom. The restaurant, Viva, serves Engadine and international dishes alongside a considered wine list. Next door, the Ovaverva water and sports centre is free to hotel guests, covering pools, sauna and gym under one roof. You can walk there in under a minute from the lobby. Beyond the hotel, the wider Engadin valley opens up for day trips, with cable cars and public transport included for stays of two nights or more in summer. It is a practical base rather than a destination in itself.
