Hotel Schloss Mönchstein

Hotel Schloss Mönchstein is a castle set within its own park on the Mönchsberg, the hill above Salzburg's Old Town. Documents first record it in 1350. The Old Town below is a UNESCO World Heritage site, reached on foot in minutes. Inside, 24 rooms and suites are each furnished differently; the Gobelin Suite, in the historic wing, is built around a single antique tapestry and looks over the park through tall windows. It runs to 50 m² and takes two guests. The Glass Garden, the hotel's restaurant, holds a Michelin star and serves two tasting menus, '1350' and a vegetarian counterpart, both in four or six courses. Simon Wagner has led its kitchen since 2024, having trained at Landhaus Bacher, IGNIV by Andreas Caminada, and Schloss Schauenstein. The Apollo Bar seats 40 guests under a glass dome, its bar handmade, its floor in Artwood, open daily from noon to 10pm. The spa covers 300 m² and includes a heated outdoor infinity pool, steam bath, sauna, and gym on Technogym equipment; you can see across Salzburg's rooftops from the sun terrace. Guests reach the Old Town on foot, or by the Mönchsberg lift. The whole castle can also be booked exclusively for private events.
