Hotel Sømandshjem Sisimiut

Founded as a sømandshjem, a lodging house built for fishermen and seafarers, Hotel SØMA Sisimiut still carries that working name among locals, who long ago shortened it to SØMA. The hotel later adopted the nickname as its brand, a nod to its history and its ties to the town's fishing community. It stands at Frederik den IX's Plads in Sisimiut, part of a chain of four hotels along Greenland's west coast. A newly built wing added suites and superior rooms with views over Sisimiut bay, alongside standard, standard plus and family rooms in a plain Nordic style. Handicap double rooms are also available. Breakfast is included. The Arctic spa sits behind the hotel, with a hot tub and sauna looking over the town and its bay. It is a compact stay, built for travellers moving on to fjord hikes, UTV runs or kayak trips into the backcountry. Restaurant SØMA serves on Fridays and Saturdays. Profits from the hotel go toward the welfare of local seafarers, fishermen and the wider community, a purpose it has carried for around 50 years.
